IEEE Spectrum's Susan Hassler speaks with Science & Society Radio host Dr. David Lemberg. They talk about how Science & Society began interviewing members of and examining the trends within the scientific community. Lemberg together with a number of friends with video production backgrounds first cooked up the idea of an internet radio program on life sciences three and a half years ago.
What started as the radio program BioTech Today now has listeners still in high school, college, scientific researchers, government officials and many other walks of life. Lemberg explains that his interviewees' broad range of disciplines is the reason for such a diverse audience. But, besides being smart and highly creative, his more than 450 guests are above all problem solvers and team players.
Lemberg discusses some of his guests, but more importantly finds that his access within the scientific community lets him get a sense of what areas are moving forward. In particular, fields such as particle physics are starting to receive more funding, along with alternative energy sources and nanotechnology. Just like in radio however, in science the critical skill to achieving long term success are scientists' communication skills.
This program was originally broadcast on IEEE Spectrum Radio.
