Dmitri Williams is a 35-year-old academic who studies the social dynamics of online games. He's also a committed member of a World of Warcraft guild in which George Vickers, a 17-year-old college student, plays a key leadership role.

In this conversation, Dmitri and George reflect on the ways in which leadership and organizational skills can be developed in an online multiplayer game.


Dmitri Williams is an assistant professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication, where he is a part of the Annenberg Program on Virtual Communities (APOC). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2004. His research focuses on the social and economic impacts of new media, with a focus on online games.

George Vickers is a student at Okaloosa Walton College in Niceville, Florida. Vickers is finishing up his Associate's Degree, and is still deciding on a major. His hobbies include reading fantasy novels, playing video games and spending timewith his friends, family, and dog.
