Jon Udell's Interviews with Innovators
33 minutes, 15.4mb, recorded 2007-11-27

Greg Whisenant, founder of CrimeReports.com, wants every city to make its crime data usefully available to citizens in the same kinds of ways that ChicagoCrime.org famously does. In this conversation with Jon Udell, Greg Whisenant describes a software product that can enable police departments to easily deliver online crime mapping and analysis. The future of law enforcement, he believes, will be a citizen/government collaboration enabled by this kind of social application.

Greg Whisenant is the founder, President and CEO of Public Engines, Inc. which makes the CrimeReports.com Web application. The application creates two way dialogue between law enforcement agencies and members of the public using Google Maps and location-based alerting services.

In 2005 and 2007, Whisenant was selected as a member of the vSpring v100, a list of the top 100 technology entrepreneurs in the State of Utah. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University (BA, English Literature 1993) and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (Master in Public Policy, 1997).
