Silona Bonewald

Silona Bonewald wishes that every government website would offer stable permalinks for all published documents. In this conversation with host Jon Udell, she describes her proposal for making that wish come true.

Silona Bonewald is the founder of the League of Technical Voters, a 501c3 dedicated to educating technical people about the political process and educating political people about the technical process.  Some past projects of the League are Codeathons where programmers write Open Source Software for NonProfits and the transparentfederalbudget.com. Currently, their main project is Citability.org which asks that all public government documents be on the web and citable to a paragraph level.

Silona has been involved in politics and technology since 1989 when she wrote her first database program for a political campaign.  She started her own company in 94-96, ElecTech that created specialized software for political campaigns, and ran a web consulting business where she was one of the first people to create websites for hire, and to successfully optimize her clients' websites for usability and top search engine ranking. She has also worked in the gaming industry, creating high visibility web presences, content management systems, and large database back-end integrations. Silona has volunteered for the ACLU and EFF on technology-based civil liberties issues, and has lobbied on various issues. The combination of her involvement in political activism, educational activism, psychometrics for gaming communities, lobbyist work, netizen activities and web design make her uniquely suited to envision the framework that will make the LoTV system all possible.
