Brian Aker, in his typical atypical style, uses the MySQL Conference to promote the database system Drizzle, as well as explain its advantages. Three major points of his lecture include Drizzle's easy use, its ability to grow and be easily manipulated to fit future formats, and its clear infrastructure.

Drizzle is written in C++ and primarily uses SQL as its command language; Aker uses these specifics and others to highlight the system's specific features. Other actions tangent to using Drizzle include easy replication, pluggable interfaces, and storage engines.

While the lecture is primarily technical and explanatory, Brian Aker uses enough wit and humor to make it as entertaining as it is informative.

Brian Aker has spent his life working on the details of how to build and scale out systems, He is currently working on a new MicroKernel designed MySQL called Drizzle and is building the plumbing required for a new generation of large scale computer deployment. He also spends time working on Apache Modules, Memcached, and Gearman.

In the past, he has been involved with projects for the Army Engineer Corps, The VirtualHospital, Splunk, MySQL, Slashdot, and was a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems. He callas Seattle his home since that is where his dog Rosalynd is.
