Dave Fetterman - Engineering Manager, Facebook

In his exuberant way, Dave Fetterman presents the "state of the world on Facebook mobile."  Sharing his perspective that working for Facebook mobile is a lot like working for the Facebook platform, Fetterman posits this is a "match made in absolute heaven."  He loves "drinking my own kool-aid on this," considering it a "complete no brainer" that mobile is the way things are going.

Hear the details behind this enthusiastic outlook.  How does Facebook mobile provide developers the means to exchange information, and use social networks to power their services and get distribution? What did one large company do to channel their social media through Facebook via their own site? What was the result for customers and the effect on developers?

Fetterman weaves in related advancements in the social mobile space, including the integral relationship between device manufacturers, telecommunications carriers, and user habits. He describes the evolving international expansion of mobile platforms, and the different cultural aspects of mobile social interaction.

The numerical increases in devices and usage are notable in and of themselves. This 16-minute talk describes how the simple cell phone has grown from its humble origins to become the center of social interaction for a critical mass of people.

Dave Fetterman is an engineering manager at Facebook, where he leads the mobile engineering team. Dave was central to the launch of the Facebook Platform project and has been an influential voice in the developer community. Prior to joining Facebook in 2006, he worked as a software engineer on projects in Microsoft’s developer division, including the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and a master’s degree in Computer Science from Harvard University.
