One of the great things about electronic devices is that developers allow others to add on or replace firmware. This allows for different or improved functions. Reed Mideke is one of the developers of CHDK, the Canon Hack Development Kit. The software adds more functions to Canon cameras by enhancing the existing firmware. Reed discusses the project, including its background and purpose.

In addition, to giving examples of some of the different capabilities, he reviews the development process, including some of the methods used by CHDK.

Reed Mideke is a freelance programmer and IT consultant the Silicon Valley area.
