Osama Bedier - Vice President of Payments, Google Inc.

Bedier explains that we are about to see a myriad new trends in the realm of mobile technology.  One innovation is increasing mobility in trade which will bring eCommerce a much-needed boost.

"The Internet has come a long way since its early days—we have made a lot of progress." Osama Bedier, Vice President of Payments at Google, said.  "In commerce though, it feels like nothing is happening—it's almost the same as it was 15 years ago."

Smartphones and other devices can rejuvinate commerce by bringing back the intimacy of local commerce with the added benefit of mobility. These devices have just recently outpaced personal computers in sales and data usage. They are bridging the online and offline worlds and promise to pull in the best that each space offers.  Required technological advances are universal digital payments, cloud-based inventory control and interoperable user-identification platforms.

Osama Bedier leads development in digital payments as Google's Vice President for Payments.  He was Vice President at Paypal where he oversaw Paypal X, the web giant's open global payments platform that allows developers to build payment applications for online and mobile applications.

Bedier served as Director of Technology for StarGuide Digital Networks before his stint at Paypal.  As Director of Technology, his team built and managed an Internet cable TV service with user-targeted advertising. He has served in product management and information architecture areas at Gateway Inc. and AT&T Wireless.

Bedier received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of California.
