As more reports surface of the theft of personal information, network security has become a topic that affects everyone, not just the IT departments of banks and governments. IT security is quickly becoming a field we all need to understand.

In this interview, Sondra Schneider of Security University speaks with Ron Gula, President and Chief Technical Officer of Tenable Security. Sondra and Ron discuss the convergence of security services and security products in large vulnerable enterprises, the history of network security and other hot topics in IT security.

This discussion highlight's Ron's insights into the technology security world. Sondra Schneider is the CEO of Security University, a Computer Security Training University. For the past 10 years Sondra has been traveling around the world training network professionals to be network and security professionals. In 2004 she was awarded “Entrepreneur of the year” for the First Annual Woman of Innovation Award from the CT Technology Council. She is an advisor for 3 computer security internet (start-up) technology companies and is a frequent speaker at security and wireless industry events. She is founding member of the NYC HTCIA and IETF, and works closely with ISC2, ISSA & ISACA chapters and the vendor community to provide computer security training and feedback.

Ron Gula, the President and Chief Technical Officer of Tenable Security, was the original author of the Dragon IDS. Mr. Gula previously was CTO of Network Security Wizards, which was acquired by Enterasys Networks. At Enterasys, Mr. Gula was Vice President of IDS Products and worked with many top financial, government, security service providers and commercial companies to help deploy and monitor large IDS installations. Mr. Gula was also the Director of Risk Mitigation for US Internetworking and was responsible for intrusion detection and vulnerability detection for one of the first application service providers. Mr. Gula began his career in information security while working at the National Security Agency conducting penetration tests of government networks and performing advanced vulnerability research. Mr. Gula has a BS from Clarkson University and a MSEE from University of Southern Illinois. Ron Gula was the recipient of the 2004 Techno Security Conference "Industry Professional of the Year" award.
