January 1 is just a date on the calendar but it's a good time to look back and look forward. And who better to reflect and prognosticate than Tim Bajaran, one of Silicon Valley's leading tech analysts? In this brief podcast, Tim and host Larry Magid talk about how consumer technology and media are evolving and what we can expect in 2006 and beyond.
Bajaran says that 2005 was a "relatively good year" for technology. Hot products included cell phones, Xbox 360, other gaming devices, laptop sales and even overall PC sales. He is excited about LCD TVs which will be getting both bigger and cheaper in the New Year along with mobile media such as the video iPod which he calls "time killers." Bajaran, whose firm has done research on "gen x" and "gen y," talks about the generation gap on the way we use technology. "Email is considered old fashioned. I did focus group with 13 year olds recently and I asked them what a typewriter was and not one of them knew."
Bajaran also gives Larry a peek at what Apple is up to, a company which he predicts will roll out content and devices for the home.
