Jonathan Taylor, founded Voxeo with a desire to change the computer telephony industry. He describes his journey from supplying mass storage to BBS operators to his current venture developing XML telephony solutions.

In this presentation from the 2006 Emerging Telephony Conference, he describes how Voxeo has made computer telephony and voicemail more accessible and how open standards are contributing to the next generation of VOIP telephony applications.

Taylor says early computer and voicemail telephony solutions were needlessly complex and inaccessible to most customers. Inspired by the idea of a call-center style application to provide access to e-mail messages, Taylor developed the first e-mail-by-phone application. This led to the founding of Voxeo with the mission to make it easy for everyone to create, integrate, and deploy easy-to-use telephony applications. Voxeo's pioneering use of open web standards in its XML telephony platform proved popular among developers, who made use of Voxeo's free developer program and hosted infrastructure. Reverse telephone number lookup for driving directions is one of the many applications made possible by the simple development environment.

Taylor previews Voxeo's latest product, Prophecy, which aids the rapid deployment of voice over IP telephony applications.

Jonathan Taylor, CEO of Voxeo, is half executive, half technologist, with a dash of revolutionary thrown in to taste. At his prior start-up, he learned first hand how painful and expensive it was to build phone applications. With a desire to change the state of the industry, he founded Voxeo, a company whose goal is to enable any person or business to create and deploy telephony applications quickly and easily. Since its start in 1999, over 15,000 individuals and businesses, from the Fortune 5 to five-person startups, have used Voxeo's free telephony tools and paid IVR hosting and VOIP platforms to deliver any telephony application they desire.
