New Technology In Enterprises
67 minutes, 30.8mb, recorded 2007-01-09
Kelly Phillips, Scott Lemon, Matt Asay

Early January is a busy period in technology with events such as Macworld and the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). As the Director of Operations for OC Tanner, Kelly Phillipps must stay abreast of new products and software upgrades. He joins Phil, Matt, and Scott in a discussion of what's new or upcoming in the IT world.

The group first discusses the recently announced iPhone from Apple. One of the problems of handheld devices is that more and more people want or need them, but none of them work perfectly. The new Apple device looks interesting, but it will likely have to go through the same period of transition to see whether it will succeed.

Kelly also answers questions about Linux as a desktop alternative in the business setting. He also talks about what an enterprise goes through when popular software, such as Microsoft Windows, releases upgrades. Upgrading is not always automatic, especially when the changes are so radical as to require major re-training and other work to bring users up to speed. Kelly talks about specific situations in his experience. Finally, they talk about open source and its place in an enterprise.
