Zope is a high-performance application/Web server, content management system. It is a complete, robust, scalable solution. Rob Page, CEO and President of Zope Corporation, joins Phil and Scott to discuss the status of Zope, as well as the company. He reviews the background of the system, including what led them to use Python as part of it. He also gives some examples of successful implementations.

As his assesses the company, Rob also discusses the reasoning behind making Zope open source and talks about the challenges of making money on open source. The discussion is both a review of a successful open source product as well as an interesting story of how to have a successful company with an open source business model.


Rob Page, CEO and President of Zope Corporation, provides leadership and vision, directing corporate operations, professional services, product development and sales. He is involved in all aspects of company strategy, client services and quality assurance. Prior to co-founding Zope Corporation in 1995, he co-founded Connecting Minds, a consultancy firm. He also served for nine years in the Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve as a data systems officer. Rob earned his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida.
