As consumers continue to adopt using media on demand using such tools as TiVo, developers are working to come up with tools that allow computer users to access material.  Deeje Cooley, product manager for Adobe, joins Phil and Scott to discuss the Adobe Media Player (AMP), which allows a user to watch their favorite shows, anytime, anywhere.  The new product also enables new ways for content businesses to create, deliver, and monetize high-quality content and advertising through a customizable cross-platform player that supports both downloaded and streamed media.

Deeje discusses the theory behind the player and also reviews the technology behind it.  He also talks about how AMP works with Adobe AIR, the company's cross-operating system runtime platform.  He also discusses the differences between such tools as Flash and Flex and talks about how AMP is able to work with them.

Deeje Cooley is a product manager in the Dynamic Media Organization at Adobe, responsible for the new Adobe Media Player. Leveraging Adobe’s Emmy Award winning Flash architecture, the Adobe Media Player delivers more engaging video experiences to viewers while offering content publishers new abilities to distribute, track and build businesses around their media assets. As the product manager, Cooley is in charge of market research, defining product requirements from the perspective of both video publishers and consumers, and developing product messaging and positioning.

Cooley has spent a total of eight years at Adobe in two separate periods. He originally joined Adobe when it acquired Aldus Corp. After leaving Adobe, he held product management and engineering positions with Apple, LeapFrog and Netscape. He also founded and later sold PuppetTime, a company that developed 3D storytelling pre-visualization software. He rejoined Adobe through the company’s acquisition of Macromedia where he worked as a product manager for Contribute, the popular Web publishing software.

Cooley has spoken at numerous events on topics including RSS technology, the Atom standards for Web feeds, and personal publishing. Cooley studied computer science at California State University, Northridge before earning his bachelor’s degree in business and marketing from the University of Phoenix.
