Thanks to breakthrough technology in speech recognition and voice user interfaces, Dial Directions has been able to deliver a service allowing cell phone callers to get driving directions to and from any place in the United States via their phone. Amit Desai of Dial Directions gives a short talk about how the service works and how the company makes money even though the service is free to users. He also describes two other spoken location services available to the cell phone caller – store locator and event locator.


Amit Desai is a veteran innovator in user interfaces for wireless, phone, and speech recognition products. An accomplished software entrepreneur and visionary, he has successfully launched three companies whose solutions are in wide public use, and employed by Fortune 2000 companies in retail, travel, healthcare, and other industries. Leveraging his expertise in user interface and speech recognition technology, Desai continues to design and develop innovations that bridge the gap between the online and mobile worlds through voice-activated location-based services. Currently, Desai is co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Dial Directions, the first company to provide free voice-activated location-based services to all cell phones. Previously, Desai co-founded and led product strategy at Voxify, a successful voice-activated products provider for Fortune 1000 contact centers worldwide. Before Voxify, Desai co-founded Anubis, a CRM software provider that created an award-winning platform used by more than 40 multinational companies, prior to the company's acquisition. Desai holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from MIT.
