Care for the elderly is a common challenge all over the world. In Egypt, an estimated 42,000 elders need or will soon need some form of assisted-living or home healthcare. Yet in that country there are few services for the homebound, and there are no nursing homes or assisted-living facilities. In this audio interview with host Sheela Sethuraman, Magda Iskander explains how she came to start Care With Love to fill this growing need. She talks about how she has built the organization into a self-sustaining NGO, including how she manages staff recruitment and training, quality control, and fiscal matters.

Magda Iskander studied radiology in the United States and returned to Cairo in 1984 to work in a hospital. Her daily encounters with elderly patients contributed to her resolve to build a home healthcare profession in Egypt, which would become known as Care with Love.
