India is the fastest-growing market in the world for computer use, which makes it an area to watch both in terms of what is being done now to help it grow, as well as potential for future growth. Rajesh Jain is invested in understanding how India's information access will progress because he knows that what happens in India will affect the world.

Two companies that Jain has been connected with, Netcore and Novatium, are looking at computer and mobile phone use in India. Growth of computer use thus far has been hampered by issues of cost and complexity. Because of this, most computer users in India go to cybercafes to use the Internet, which means that connectivity has a minor role in their lives. In order to change this dynamic, Jain suggests that there are solutions that make regular access to the Internet easier and more affordable.

Mobile use is also crucial in any consideration of emerging technologies in India today. Because so many more people in India have access to and use mobile phones than computers, Jain feels they are becoming the primary means of disseminating information. The use of text messages via mobile means that consumers can be reached directly and targeted more effectively.

Long one of the world's most underserved markets, India now presents a real opportunity for innovators.
