Living with Jerry's Brain: Lessons from 11 Years in One App
58 minutes, 26.7mb, recorded 2009-08-11
Jerry Michalski

Jerry Michalski demonstrates the user interface and features of TheBrain, a concept-map application for your mind.  He takes questions from the audience which delve into the deeper implications, uses, and future of the software.

For twelve years, Michalski has recorded, connected, and added links to over 112,000 of his thoughts in TheBrain, so he's well placed to discuss how the application helps him organize and access his ideas and how it affects his lifestyle.

He also touches on what it means to put thoughts and ideas into a persistent long-term context and have the context remain meaningful, the insights he's gleamed about himself, and even the possibility of a networked "super-brain" that selectively joins synapses (or thoughts) from others' brains.

Note: This presentation is highly demonstrative. Viewing Jerry Michalski's Brain Online or TheBrain is recommended before listening.

Jerry Michalski acts as a guide to the relationship economy, helping companies develop strategies that build authentic, productive relationships with their customers and employees. Usually, this requires a blend of corporate strategy, social dynamics, and social software. Jerry's consulting clients include the Institute for the Future (IFTF), Best Buy, and Havas Media. He also advises a number of startups (CoTweet, EverNote, TheBrain, Twine, Socialtext), conference organizers, and nonprofits.

His perspective has formed over twelve years as a technology industry analyst, first for New Science Associates (a company like Gartner) and later writing for Esther Dyson's monthly newsletter, Release 1.0. Jerry earned an MBA from the Wharton School and a BA in economics from the University of California at Irvine. Jerry was raised in Peru and Argentina and speaks fluent Spanish and German--and pretty passable French.
