Nonprofit management has its most severe test under conditions of a natural disaster. Stanford professor of surgery, Paul Auerbach, found that out first hand when he and the Stanford Emergency Medicine rapid response team flew to Haiti to help victims of the January 2010 earthquake. In this university podcast, Auerbach shares how he and his team of doctors and nurses coordinated medical and logistical efforts with NGOs, the military, medical volunteers, and other organizations to create a functional hospital operation that was able to treat patients and save lives. He provides lessons for leaders and supply chain professionals about just what is needed in a disaster to help victims most effectively. Auerbach spoke at the fourth annual Socially and Environmentally Responsible Supply Chain Conference convened by the Global Supply Chain Management Forum and the Center for Social Innovation at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
