David Messenger

David Messenger gives a quick overview of changes taking place in the online business world, covering not only the main forces driving changes, but also objectives for businesses to focus on.  Among the drivers of change are security, customer service, convenience, and above all, universality.

He presents a broad spectrum analysis of change drivers' effects on businesses. These include a change in marketing breadth and focus and an increase in the use of digital currency.  As more purchases occur through the Internet and banks, employers and consumers shift money through online accounts. Digital payments, in particular, will have a large impact on the future, especially as the scale of usage changes.

Stressing the importance of connecting the online and offline worlds, Messenger discusses the importance of looking through the perspective of consumers and individual users. He gives examples of how daily life will change alongside technology, including paying employees online, and buying and communicating through the Web.  These things are made further possible by the advancing reach of the Internet through hardware, such as easy access to cell phones and new innovations in devices.

David Messenger is the executive vice president and head of American Express’ Online and Mobile business unit. In this capacity, Messenger is responsible for developing new online and mobile payment capabilities and associated services and applications, with an emphasis on creating strategic digital partnerships. His role encompases all online and mobile marketing, business development, customer care, and CRM functions.
