As computing continues to enter our households in ways not even considered years ago, the ability to interface with new devices and processes continue to grow. oX framework proposes a scalable and comprehensive conceptual solution to support the needs of this next wave of computing. As described by Toby Considine, "plug'ins are used for each new control protocol (BACnet, ModBus, DNP, …) to be exposed in the oX server. This model distinguishes between the low level low voltage protocol used for each system and the information harvesting that one wishes to do in the wide world." Peter discusses the project and its current status and use.

Project leader Peter Michalek discusses the background and work on oX, including its initial development and how it relates to the oBIX protocol. He also review both possible uses and some examples of platforms that could use the oX architecture.

Peter Michalek has more than 25 years of software development and management experience. Over the last two decades he has helped multiple Silicon Valley early stage technology companies define and develop initial versions of innovative software products and services. He has been previously principal software architect at Fortify Software, chief architect at Rearden Commerce and has provided software consulting services for customers that include Cisco, NEC, DoCoMo, webMethods, Apprion and others.
