While many people focus on how to improve social enterprise, discerning what the future of corporate social responsibility may entail, or defining "social capital markets," we all may be looking at the wrong end of the horse. After all, isn't it all about value creation and maximization? Speaking at Bridging the Gap, the 2005 Stanford Net Impact conference, Jed Emerson says that what's important is the pursuit of a blend of social, economic, and environmental value, regardless of what form it takes. In this audio lecture, Emerson takes us through the journey of his personal career and invites us to explore the nature of value beyond traditional limiting mindsets.

Jed Emerson is a senior fellow at the Generation Foundation. In early 2001, he began focusing upon his interest in the Blended Value Proposition (BVP). During 2003, Emerson led a project team in “mapping” five areas of related work (strategic philanthropy, social investing, social enterprise, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable development), all of which are efforts to maximize blended value. A founding director of the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund, Emerson spends much of his life on the road addressing conferences, students and practitioners, both as a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator. He has presented at numerous conferences and events both nationally and internationally and is recognized as an international leader in the field of strategic philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, and blended-value investing.
