World of Good, Nau Inc., and the San Francisco Department of the Environment are three organizations dedicated to promoting social and environmental well-being through their core business activities, their fresh approaches to supply chain practices, and their work to influence others in their industries. In this panel discussion, part of the Socially and Environmentally Responsible Supply Chains conference convened in 2008 by the Stanford Graduate School of Business, leaders from each organization talk about the structure and mission of their enterprises, and how they have integrated their commitment to greenness and social responsibility in the way they manage the supply chain. Topics include fair trade, sustainable design, green purchasing, and public/private partnerships.

As cofounder and CEO, Priya Haji is the award-winning leader of World of Good, a nationally distributed fair trade gift and accessories company with more than 1,000 retail partners. Since 2004, World of Good has worked with more than 5,600 artisans in 34 countries. Haji is also the cofounder and board chair of the World of Good: Development Organization, a nonprofit focused on both improving the quality of life for artisans worldwide and strengthening global wage standards. As a senior at Stanford, she cofounded Free at Last in East Palo Alto, a national model program to address substance-abuse related issues, and served as its executive director for eight years. For her work with Free at Last, Haji was recognized by the DoSomething Foundation, MTV, and Mademoiselle magazine as one of America’s Ten Most Outstanding Young Leaders. She holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

Shawn Rosenmoss is a senior environmental specialist with the San Francisco Department of the Environment. In her two decades in program development, Rosenmoss has worked in the corporate, nonprofit, government and public education arenas. Currently the manager of grants and fundraising for San Francisco’s Department of the Environment, Rosenmoss is proud to be working in a city that is doing so much to green its own supply chain and drive the market for other entities to do the same. She facilitates an array of programs with private sector companies, workforce development organizations, arts groups, museums, educators, foundations, and other municipal departments. A former dancer and aerialist, Rosenmoss holds a BS in electrical engineering and a secondary math teaching credential.

Adrienne Moser has 20 years of experience in the apparel design, development, and sales industry. She has served as the chief operating officer of Nau Inc. In this role, Moser has been responsible for management of the retail and web sales channels, marketing and product design, development, sourcing and production. From her career beginnings with Johnson Controls on the ground floor of a new sales unit, Moser developed a core of operational management skills: design, development, marketing, and sales. Prior to joining Nau, she worked as the general merchandise manager for Patagonia, and was responsible for every sphere of operational management: developing apparel product concepts, launching new apparel lines, and managing aggregate product category assortment, revenue, gross margin, and profit contribution goals.

Julie Juergens is director of external relations and programs at the Stanford Center for Social Innovation. She began her career at the Close-Up Foundation in Washington, D.C., and later led Stanford’s Public Management Program and served as a Vanderbilt University adjunct professor. She recently co-edited Conversations in Philanthropy, an examination of the purpose and obligations of contemporary philanthropy. Juergens is a trustee for Start Up, an economic development nonprofit, and serves on the advisory council for New Sector Alliance, a national nonprofit strategy consulting firm. She received her AB from the University of California, Davis, and her AM from Stanford University.
